Out and About in Delco this November

Looking to be Out and About in Delco again this month? Look no further as we have gathered some fun events for you to enjoy in your community as well as a few ways to give back. Afterall, it is the season when we remind ourselves of what we are thankful for. It’s time to pay it forward to those who might need a kind gesture or support.

Giving Back and Giving Thanks

One of the best parts about living in an area like Delco is the small town feel and the pride that goes with it. Take Roma Deli in Holmes, for instance, who for the month of November is choosing a different charity weekly to support. For each hoagie sold, the owners will donate $1 to that charity. In addition, there is a donation jar for customers to also contribute to the community-based effort. Word on the street is that the hoagies are pretty darn good. Yum!

Who doesn’t love a good Turkey Trot? On Thanksgiving Day, November 23, the 7th annual Delco Turkey Trot will take place with options for the serious 5K runners, a Little Drumstick Fun Run, or virtual participants as well. Boasted as the BIGGEST Thanksgiving Day 5k in Delaware County, the race directly benefits the Nether Providence Elementary School PTO in Wallingford. Run for a good cause before you eat your Turkey Dinner!

If getting dressed up to give back is preferred to running in sneakers, sign up for the 2nd Annual Fostering Hope Gala on Saturday, November 4 at Radnor Valley Country Club. Fostering Hope is a donation-based organization that supports and empowers youth experiencing foster care. If you cannot attend the gala, consider donating as all funds raised at this event will go toward the group’s work.

Perhaps animals are your passion. Well, there is an opportunity to support them as well; in this case, cats in particular at Kocktails for Kitties on Friday, November 10 at Aronimink Golf Club. PALS, Pet Adoption and Lifecare Society, is sponsoring this prrrfectly fun event to benefit the medical fund to cover the 300 plus cats they adopt annually. Can’t attend? No problem. Click on their link to make an online donation.

Members of the community can also honor veterans in Delaware County by attending the 9th Annual Freedom Medal Dinner at Springfield Country Club on Thursday, November 16. There is no better way to give thanks to those who have served and ensuring the legacy and history of our nation’s military lives on than by attending or contributing today.

If you want to support your own community by giving back, shop ‘til you drop in Swarthmore during Small Business Saturday on November 25. Not only will you get a head start on your holiday shopping, but you will be supporting local businesses in Swarthmore Town Center. Get your list ready, get set, and GO!

A Little Bit of Everything for the Little Ones and Their Folks

History buffs, beware. On Saturday, November 4, take a look into the past during Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation’s 17th Century Day where the expansion of both Europe and America will be highlighted. It is always interesting to examine our country’s past, and sometimes witness how history repeats itself…

If you and your family enjoy nature, Tyler Arboretum is offering an informative, fun evening to study some of our feathered friends. On Thursday, November 8, the curators will provide a sneak peek into Nature at Night:  Birds of Prey where evening predators such as hawks and owls will be examined and discussed.

Each month the Brandywine River Museum offers a Stroller Tour where parents are encouraged to bring stroller-aged kids for a guided tour in the museum. This month’s event takes place on Friday, November 10 with the theme of Rooted:  Family and Nature in Contemporary Children’s Book Illustrations. It’s a perfect combo of enjoying art while exposing your little ones to its wonders.

Linvilla Orchards is the place that keeps on going…season after season, and it never disappoints. The fall harvest season ends with their annual Arts and Craft Festival the weekend of November 4 – 5. Attendees can expect to browse handmade wares of local artisans and listen to live music. Not to disappoint the kiddos, Pumpkinland will still be open!

Because the fun never ends at Linvilla Orchards, the following Saturday, November 11, they will host Food Truck Frenzy, a great event for the entire family. Over a dozen local food trucks will be on hand with their delectable food as well as the regular kid activities such as pony rides, train rides, and hayrides.

out-and-about-in-delco-this-novemberGet ready to lace up your skates as Flight on Ice returns to West Chester Pike, Newtown Square for the season the weekend of November 24. In addition to taking flight on the ice, there will be music, food, and a place to warm-up. Check the schedule for times and special events that include live music.
